Avengers (1963 series) consisted of 402 issues. Then, in 1996, Marvel re-started the series at #1 and continued to #13. In 1998, they re-started the series again at #1 and it ran until issue #84. Then, in 2004, to mark the 500th issue overall, Marvel re-numbered the series to #500.
