n this graphic novel, Makoto witnesses her older sister's courtship and marriage to Shin, a gentle and sensitive man who nicknames his wife "Princess." His personality, combined with his good looks, makes him Makoto's ideal, much to the annoyance of her longtime male friend, Yo, whose feelings for the girl have recently deepened. Enter Ryu, Shin's sullen but handsome younger brother who bears the emotional scars of being left with his unstable mother at the time of their parents' divorce. Ryu moves in with Makoto and her family since his brother and sister-in-law are moving to Hawaii and he needs to stay and finish school. After being initially attracted to him, Makoto finds his attitude to be surly and secretive until she begins to know him better and his inner self is revealed. Done in pen and ink, Taniguchi's black-and-white illustrations are well rendered and convey a great deal of emotion. The plot is well developed and romantic while steering clear of any sex, making this book a great addition for younger manga fans.
