Ultimate X-Men was the second "Ultimate" title in the Marvel series, after Ultimate Spider-Man. The concept was to appeal to new readers by completely starting the X-Men saga over from the start, by wiping out their entire history. As a result, new readers did not need to know 40 years of X-Men history.
