Checkmate comic books were based on an American detective television series starring Anthony George, Sebastian Cabot, and Doug McClure. The show aired on CBS from 1960 to 1962. The series chronicled the cases of a private detective agency set in San Francisco. Anthony George and Doug McClure ran the agency, which specialized in preventing crimes before they happen. Sebastian Cabot portrayed a college professor as an adviser.
