Story and art by Joe Kubert. In 1945, we told the world, "Never again." In 1992, we forgot our promise. That was the year the war broke out in Sarajevo, Bosnia, the year that genocide revisted the planet. That was the year that Ervin Rustemagic and his family found themselves trapped in a city under siege. Ervin is an international businessman, an art agent whose clients include comics veteran Joe Kubert. Ervin had grown up in Sarajevo and had run his business from the city for more than a decade. When the shells and gunfire tore the city asunder, Ervin's only efficient means of communication to the outside world was via his fax machine, through which he could send extended messages very quickly, messages which could be re-faxed to his many clients and friends. As Joe began to receive these messages, he saw a story unfolding, one of horror and outrage and inhumanity, and of hope. And Joe did what he had done for years -- he put the story to paper. The result is one of the greatest achievements of one of comics' greatest living masters, a story of hope and promise against the worst kind of odds.
