Gang Busters comic books are based on the dramatic radio program premiered as G-Men, on July 20, 1935. After the title was changed to Gang Busters in 1936, the show had a 21-year run on network radio. A barrage of loud sound effects - a shrill police whistle, convicts marching in formation, police siren wailing, machine guns firing, and tires squealing - led to the popular catchphrase "came on like Gang Busters".
